Tapering Strategies: A Practical Guide
Whether you're taking a tolerance break or discontinuing use, tapering prevents withdrawal symptoms. Here's the protocol used by clinical researchers.
The 10-Day Taper Protocol
For moderate users (5-15g daily):
- Days 1-3: Reduce by 25% (e.g., 15g → 11g)
- Days 4-6: Reduce by 25% again (11g → 8g)
- Days 7-8: Reduce by 33% (8g → 5g)
- Days 9-10: Reduce by 50% (5g → 2.5g), then stop
Withdrawal Symptom Management
Kratom withdrawal is typically milder than opioid withdrawal (FDA's own data). Symptoms peak at 2-3 days and resolve within a week:
- Rhodiola rosea: 300mg 2x daily for fatigue/mood
